Hypnotherapy is an application of deep relaxation for therapeutic benefits. It can be used in areas such as medicine, sport, and for development of a person’s well-being.
Hypnosis enables your mind to focus concentration, producing a state of deep relaxation. Throughout this process, your mind is more open to suggestion, allowing you to make changes in your perception and behaviour, for the benefit of your health. Coupling hypnotherapy with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) you can change or improve any area of your life.
HYPNOSIS
Hypnotherapy uses deep relaxation techniques to get around the conscious mind’s beliefs and barriers that prevent one from changing. Hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state of concentration. For most people they simply feel relaxed. During hypnosis there is a change in the brain wave activity, similar to the state just before sleep and just as you wake. This is when you enter the alpha state. The alpha state is a very dreamy, pleasant state and the mind is very open to visualisations and creating a rich and almost real sensory experience. Have you ever noticed that your clearest thoughts usually just “pop-up” in your mind at these times.
The more real the experience becomes in the subconscious mind during this dreamy, relaxed state the longer lasting effect it will have on your waking behaviour.
This is called the hypnotic state. We all pass in and out of this state naturally during the day – when we are completely involved in a good book, a movie, a television show or our deep thoughts. We are undisturbed by surrounding noise or activity.
Hypnotherapy enables you to make use of that relaxed focused state to enable access to the vast resources of your mind.
Using hypnosis to support you in a medical context allows you to feel very calm and peaceful. You are not asleep or unconscious; you will hear other sounds and will be fully aware of what is happening during the session. When your unconscious mind is very relaxed you are receptive and open to new ideas and can easily learn new positive ways of thinking, feeling and behaving.
Science is confirming more and more that the mind is actually a fabulous healing tool. All your bodily functions and your immune systems are controlled by your subconscious mind. Hypnosis is a wonderful tool that can be used to support and compliment all your healing treatments.
Can hypnosis make me say something against my will?
No. You will not say anything against your will that you would not ordinarily divulge. You always have a choice, under hypnosis you brain does not stop functioning or reasoning in any way.
Can hypnosis make me do something I don’t want to?
No. This is often a myth associated with hypnosis. Stage hypnosis seems to make people do strange and weird things while hypnotized. Stage hypnotists choose their subjects very carefully to ensure they have willing participants. You will never accept any suggestion that violates your morals or values.
Is there any danger of not waking up?
This can NEVER happen. If your therapist left the room, or if you were listening to a tape and the electricity went off, you would either fall asleep or wake up naturally in your own time or your unconscious mind would detect that there was no voice guiding you and then you would wake up naturally.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes. In fact you can learn to practise self-hypnosis. Some people don’t think they are hypnotised after a session, but what they do notice is that things have changed – maybe that day, maybe the next week. Sometimes the changes are immediate and dramatic such as in a quit cigarettes session and sometimes the effects are subtle and sometimes profound.
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)
NLP explores the relationship between how we think (neuro), how we communicate both verbally and non-verbally (linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour and emotion (programmes).
NLP is the abbreviation and the common term for Neuro Linguistic Programming.
Neuro focuses on the relationship between the mind and the body.
Linguistics describes the communication within and between individuals.
Programming refers to how the relationship between Neurology and Linguistics results in certain actions based on the programs we run in our bodies.
NLP describes how external information is processed internally resulting in a certain behaviour. It is a goal-oriented street-wise psychology created to generate fast, lasting and positive changes.
NLP suggests that individual habits and behaviours can be changed by changing the language with which individuals communicate with themselves and others. It can be effectively used to change, adopt or eliminate behaviours in order to produce results in a corporate, individual or relationship setting. The methodology provides an ability to choose mental, emotional and physical states of empowerment, control and positive persuasion at any time.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
ACUPUNCTURE WITHOUT NEEDLES! Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a system of tapping on various points of the head and torso connected to Meridian energy lines (similar to acupressure) to clear blockages created by limiting beliefs and install new beliefs. This is an increasingly popular therapy as the client can learn to perform this themselves.
